Curious what a Brightroots session actually looks like? Here's a walk through a typical class for our two age groups — so you and your child know exactly what to expect on day one.
Little Roots classes are 30 minutes and built around a story. Children might “travel through the jungle” — stomping like elephants (strong legs), balancing like flamingos (single-leg balance), and hissing like snakes (long exhales). Every pose is a character, every breath is a game. Sessions end with a short “quiet cloud” rest, often the first time a young child discovers they can settle their own body.
School-age classes run 40–45 minutes with a warm-up, a flowing sequence of poses, partner and group challenges, and focus games that train attention the way research says works best — in short, playful doses. We close with breathing practice and a guided rest. Kids leave knowing two or three techniques they can use before a test or when big feelings show up.
Nothing. We bring mats and props. Comfortable clothes they can move in are ideal; bare feet or socks both work. No experience or flexibility is required — poses are offered at multiple levels, and instructors adapt for every body.
Expect your child to show you a pose at dinner. Many parents tell us the breathing exercises show up on their own — before bedtime, in the car, or mid-meltdown. That's the goal: tools children carry with them, not just a class they attend.
A first Brightroots class is playful from minute one: stories and animal poses for ages 5–9, flows and focus games for 10–12, and breathing tools every child takes home. No equipment or experience needed.
No. Classes assume zero experience, and every pose is offered at multiple levels so all children can participate.
Comfortable clothes they can move in. We provide mats and all props — there's nothing to buy or bring.
Yes. Classes are movement-first and game-based; stillness comes in short, well-supported doses at the end. Instructors are trained to welcome wiggly and shy kids alike.
About 30 minutes for ages 5–9 and 40–45 minutes for ages 10–12.
